Extreme discomfort such as persistent colds, nasal congestion, cough and headache are some of the symptoms that usually accompany a sinus infection. When you suffer from sinusitis and had some of these symptoms, there are treatment options for treating the condition rapidly at home.

Paranasal sinuses become inflamed, during a sinus infection, and the condition is known as sinusitis. Some of the causes that can trigger sinus infections are viruses and allergens, at the onset of a sinus infection, it recover after 7-8 days. 

However, when the sinus achieves acute and chronic conditions, it takes longer to heal and usually requires eight weeks to heal completely.


Some of the symptoms also usually accompany a sinus infection, such as fever, headache and nasal congestion due to sinus gland swelling. Natural cures for sinus infections need to be done immediately to reduce discomfort and prevent the condition from worsening.

What are Natural Cures for Sinus Infections at Home

1. Use Nasal Drops

Nasal drops that have formulated for sinus infections, you may obtain from the doctor. Although this is not a natural treatment, the use of nasal drops can cure sinusitis in a short time, but there are some nasal drops made from grape seed extract which helps reduce inflammation and swelling in the sinus cavities.

2. Steam Inhalation
Steam inhalation is my favorite method for reducing sinus infections due to inflammation in the sinus cavity. Using boiling water and inhale the steam is the easy way to thin the mucus in the sinus cavity, add eucalyptus oil or tea tree oil in boiling water. It may work as a decongestant and respiratory relief.

3. Keep Room Humidity
Keeping the humidity is imperative when you suffer from sinusitis especially when the room is too dry or cold.

Dry air makes you prone to infection and irritation in the nasal passages while the cold air may cause nasal congestion.

Use a humidifier and create a humidity around 20-40%. Good air humidity helps soothe the nasal passages and prevent irritation.

4. Vitamin C, Potassium, and Zinc
Your body need all three of the above elements for the vitality primarily to support your immune system. When suffering from a sinus infection, high intake of vitamin C, potassium, and zinc able to help reduce the mucus that causes congestion.

Add fruits and vegetables which are rich in zinc, potassium, and vitamin C into your daily menu. If necessary, you can use a supplement that contains all three elements, but you should consult a doctor first.

5. Adjusting Diet
Your diet influences a lot on your health; some foods are proven to increase the risk of sinus infections, especially foods that contain lots of sugar and oil.

Avoid these foods when suffering from a sinus infection. Adding fluid intake in the form of green tea, ginger and drink red clover may help relieve the symptoms of a sinus infection.

Drinking a glass of orange juice and honey or chew a few slices of ginger root in the morning can boost your immune system to fight sinus infections.

6. Warm Compress
Apply warm compresses when suffering from a sinus infection is a simple way to cure sinus infection. Using a towel and dip into the hot water and then squeeze water out of the towel.

Put a towel over your face, especially at the top of your nose, add a few drops of eucalyptus oil to the towel and leave for a few minutes. Do this several times a day and make sure the towels had the right temperature while on your face.
